I'll be home for Christmas!

I'm writing this for my sister's December Group Writing Project from Mamablogga.com. The theme this month is "The best time of the year." So here is my post!

The phrase "the best time of the year" (especially when read in December) of course makes people think of Christmas and who doesn't love Christmas? There are so many reasons: family, treats, presents, cheesy specials on TV, and an overall feeling of cheer and enjoyment of life. It is a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior and show our love for others. After all that you'd think my post would be about Christmas but I just wanted to give Christmas a shout out because I do love it but the year I was thinking of is a little different.

Kevan and I chose to get married December 29th for a couple of reasons. First it seemed far enough away from my finals week so we could get last minute details done. It was far enough from Christmas, well only four days but I know lots of people getting married on the 27th. I think the biggest reason (at least for me) was that it was exactly one year from our first date/time we met. Our only hesitation for getting married that day was that that's his brother and sister-in-law's anniversary but they were kind enough to share it with us. So right now I consider the best time of the year the culmination of the year we dated/were engaged. We're getting married in only 18 more days!
Speaking of countdowns this year was counted down almost constantly. The only days we didn't count down were those we were together (during which we ignored the dwindling days) and those when the time that we would again be united was indefinite. I know there will be more countdowns in our lives but not ones until I can see my best friend again. This year has made me so grateful for the times that I was with Kevan. It ends with us getting sealed in the house of the Lord and being together for the rest of eternity. This is the best time of the year.

Counting is a funny thing. You think you'll never get there, then there you are. And one day you'll be sitting on a couch together with your two kids and a dog and say "I can't believe it's been eleven years" It seems like such an unfathomable number, yet here we are. Amazing.

I am such a lucky guy to have you in my life. I couldn't have asked for a better friend to laugh with and love forever. see you soon my sweet angel

Um, I think you cheated, getting married the same week as Christmas.

You're so not eligible for the prize ;) .

Thanks for participating, Cookie!

I agree that getting married or having a baby during the joyous christmas season just adds to the whole holiday experience. But for the mama it also adds even more chaos. I keep trying to remember how special all of these life changing events are and how much more sweet it makes this season.
